The Solicitors practice of Fairchild Greig & Co was established in Acton in 1919 by William Fairchild Greig and is Acton’s second oldest firm. In 1936, William’s son Roger took over the running of the Acton office until his retirement as senior partner in 1974. Mr Oliver Dobbs became the senior partner in 1974 and established an office at Gerrards Cross, under the name of Fairchild Dobbs & Co.

The firm has for many years maintained Christian values in its ethos and practice. It has throughout its existence sought to serve people and organisations of many backgrounds and faiths. The firm maintains an equality and diversity policy.

Mr Duncan Halliday became the principal of the firm in 1997 when Fairchild Dobbs & Co became a separate practice. He joined this firm as an associate solicitor in 1978 dealing with conveyancing and other property work. He became a partner in 1989. Duncan Halliday has over 30 years experience in dealing with a wide variety of residential and commercial conveyancing, wills and probate and other non- contentious property work.

Mr Christopher Hutson is a consultant solicitor in the practice and its head of litigation. After obtaining an LLB degree at Bristol University, he trained in Central London and worked in Central London practices for 5 years after qualification. During this period, he undertook a variety of criminal defence litigation ( everything from suspicious loitering to murder) and a wide variety of civil litigation work, including the conduct of appeal cases in the Court ofAppeal, House of Lords and Privy Council. He joined this practice in 1977 and established the Litigation Department, specialising in a wide variety of civil litigation. He was a partner between 1978 and 1987. After a career break, during which he was involved in setting up a mediation and arbitration service, he re-joined the practice in 1991 as a consultant and the head of litigation. Chris Hutson specialises in personal injury claims, and he is accredited as a senior litigator by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. He also specialises in professional negligence claims and a wide variety of property litigation, including Landlord & Tenant and Probate claims, and employment law matters .
